The government of South Korea on Saturday issued a
warning to its citizens against travelling to the
Philippines, citing possible terrorist attacks. The warning by the South Korea’s National Intelligence
Service came in the midst of frequent terror threats
from anti-government organisations in the Philippines.
South Korean officials said the government of the
Philippines has been on a full alert after being
informed of possible bombing attacks by the terrorist
Abu Sayyaf Group on the second anniversary of the
terrorist attacks in the Philippines.
South Korea’s intelligence agency has advised citizens
especially to refrain from visiting the southern area of
the Philippines, including Sulu and Palawan.
While millions of South Koreans headed for their
hometowns for the three-day Lunar New Year holiday
starting on Saturday, over 13,000 people are expected to
travel abroad for leisure.
The Lunar New Year, one of biggest holidays of the
Philippines, runs from February 17 to 19 this year,
which overlaps with the weekend, thus making it shorter
than usual.
