LEGEND OF ZELDA: OCARINA OF
TIME |
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
named the "greatest game ever"
9 July, 2007
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
has topped the best 100 games ever in
the history of gaming by a research
conducted the by readers of Edge
magazine and industry experts. The
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, has
been voted as the greatest ever in the
poll by the magazine.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
is a 10-year-old game for the Nintendo
64 games console. This game is also
one of only five games ever to receive
a 10-out-of-10 review score from Edge
magazine.
Of the top ten games, five were games
made only for Nintendo game consoles.
Super Mario 64 came in the third spot.
Tony Mott, editor in chief, said, "If
you were new to video games and were
going to go out and buy 100 games to
make an instant collection, then these
would be the games to buy. "Ocarina of
Time is nearly 10 years old, but its
position at the top slot in Edge's 100
Best Videogames shows that great game
design does not age. "
Although the Zelda game may not be
able to compete with the new kids on
the block in terms of visual effects,
as with many classics, the game's
appeal is much more than its
appearance.
The top 10 games contain only one game
made for the PC, classic first-person
shooter Half Life 2. Microsoft Xbox
360 also has one game in the elite
list, Halo: Combat Evolved at number
seven.
"If we did this poll in five year's
time, I would hope to see more PS3 and
Xbox 360 games in the list. But I
don't think anyone would argue we have
seen that many classics in this new
generation," said Tony Mott. "It
appeared not long after games made the
shift to 3D, everyone was wondering if
it could make the transition."
