Xbox 360 Elite takes on
PlayStation 3
2 May, 2007
It has finally arrived to create a
splash in the video game mart.
Software behemoth Microsoft’s latest
Xbox 360 Elite video game console has
officially arrived. The first reports
are that it is giving rival Sony’s
PlayStation 3 some sleepless nights.
Analysts have already taken its
inclusion of the 120GB hard drive in
the face of an existing 20 GB Xbox 360
Premium HDD that can fill all-too
quickly if a user is fond of actively
downloading game demos, trailers,
and/or video content through
Microsoft’s Xbox Live Marketplace, an
industry report said.
It added that with the emergence of
Xbox Live Video Marketplace, where
users are able to download complete HD
or SD versions of all their favourite
broadcast media, the extra space
provided by the 120GBs storage is
worth an applause indeed.
Meanwhile studies in comparson have
said that the 120GB Elite, as against
Sony’s similarly powerful PlayStation
3, offers twice the memory while still
being priced at around $20 USD less.
However, the Elite’s HDMI aural
delivery falls a little flat compared
to that of the PS3 in that movies
played via the HD-DVD add-on only run
in standard Dolby Digital, and not the
improved Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby
True HD, or DTS-HD Master Audio, some
studies pointed out.
The $480 price tag that Elite sports
is just $80 more than that of
Microsft’s 20GB Premium model.
