Yes, the Mobile World Congress is here – and we are most kicked about the Windows 7 version of Windows Mobile – which Engadget just revealed would be called the Windows Phone 7 Series.

Update: Here is our first picture of a Windows Phone 7 Series device and interface – this is from Engadget Mobile, who themselves got it from learnbemobile (we have no idea who that is.)
This is not an official photo, obviously. Basically the covers at WMC lifted for a moment and revealed this image:

Photo: A Windows Phone 7 Series device and UI
As you can see, this one really looks different from Windows Mobile as we know it. That is a pretty sleek device there – we do not know if its a real phone or a render, however.
The Windows Phone 7 Series UI as we see here looks super clean and elegant – and you can see that big XBox Live button at the bottom left of the photo, pointing at some serious integration attempts between the two platforms.
We are all kicked now – and prowling the net for more pics. Come back in a while!

Logo: Windows Phone; soon to be Windows Phone 7 Series
The name makes us suspect that there might be several version of Windows Phone 7, just like Windows 7. Microsoft can never keep things super simple, can it?
Anyway, so far rumors are that the Windows Phone 7 Series phones would not be as customisable as the current set of Windows Mobile Phones. The latest version of Windows Mobile is Windows Mobile 6.5.3, currently available on the Sony Ericsson Aspen phone.
Windows Mobile has a hardcore fan following which is into tweaking and modifying the performance and interface of the phone. If Microsoft decides to make customisation impossible, that would mean that these fans would be seriously disappointed.
That would also mean that companies like HTC which built their own user interfaces on top of the WinMo UI – like the HTC Sense – would not be able to do it any longer.
There are also rumors that Microsoft in its desire to keep more control over the Windows Phone 7 Series ecosystem, would disable application installing directly. In other words, only the approved apps in the Windows Phone Marketplace would be available for installation.
Remember that none of this is confirmed. But all would be revealed soon.
We expect to bring you screenshots, videos of the new user interface of Windows Phone 7 Series, and photos of any phone models that will be unveiled or launched during the presentation very soon.
