Amidst much fanfare, the mobile phone operator Vodafone had announced some time back that the operator will offer Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 with plans to range it exclusively till 31 December 2009. But now, if the recent reports are to be believed, Vodafone has dumped Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 because of the expected delays.

“Sony Ericsson can confirm that the X2 will not be released by Vodafone in the UK”, reads a statement from Vodafone.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X2, the Windows Mobile handset, will not be released by Vodafone in the UK.

The main reason behind Vodafone dumping Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 is expected to be delay of Xperia X2.

“The delivery date of the product has slipped due to extended testing and the product, that was exclusive to Vodafone in the UK, no longer fits within their planned portfolio”, states Ericsson. Sony Ericsson is disappointed not to make this phone available to consumers in the UK but 2010 will see the company offering a number of innovative, stand-out products in the market”.

There are also unconfirmed reports in the online media that the launch of Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, the planned Android-based precessor to the X2, will also suffer a delay. According to the new reports, the delay has caused the launch date to  slip to March 2010 from February.
