Viewsonic’s Viewpad 7 is an Android 2.2 tablet, while the Viewpad 10 will dual-boot Android and Windows 7.
Viewsonic, the company we all know as the LCD monitor-maker, is planning a major push into some booming segments. And we will see their first major products other than LCD monitors at the IFA 2010 in September in Berlin. Related: IFA 2010 curtain raiser
One of the products is a new 7 inch Android tablet that runs Froyo 2.2. Photos of the ViewSonic Viewpad 7 are already available on the Net from a variety of publications (most probably publicity photos). Related: Upcoming Android 3.0 Gingerbread tablets
The ViewPad 7 comes with 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity. Other features include front and back-facing cameras, GPS, a Micro SD card slot, Bluetooth, G-Sensor and USB connectivity. That’s all with specifications for now. We have no idea about the processor that runs the entire show. Also, the Viewpad 7 photos do not show the tablet switched on – so we do not if it will be plain Android 2.2 or a custom UI or skin. Remember that the ViewPad brand was always with Viewsonic, so the new Viewpad tablets will revive the forgotten name.
ViewSonic will also be showcasing its new Intel-based 10-inch tablet that comes with a dual boot option for Windows 7 and Android operating systems. This, if it makes into production at an affordable price, could be the dream tablet for those outside the Apple world. The ViewPad 10 (that is the rumored name) tablet will use Android as a fast-boot OS for quick access to online and media content. The tablet would also offer a touchscreen e-book reader with on-board Wi-Fi.
