Verizon may launch LG Prada to take on iPhone

30 May, 2007

Internet sites and blogs are buzzing with the news of that so-called iPhone killer - the LG Prada - and this time the conduit is Verizon Wireless. Published reports say that Verizon Wireless is plotting a response to AT&T's widely-anticipated Apple iPhone.

Apple had unveiled the iPhone at the MacWorld Conference in January. The main features of the iPhone are a 3.5-inch, 160 dot-per-inch color screen, a 2 megapixel digital camera and a touchscreen Apple calls "Multitouch," the main aim of which is to increase accuracy by ignoring unintended touches. The Apple iPhone is thinner than other smartphones and is just 11.6 millimetres thick.

AT&T has received the exclusive rights to sell Apple iPhone for the next five years. AT&T will sell the Apple iPhone from June 2007onwards.

Verizon's iPhone killer could either be LG Prada, or KE850. LG Prada is a phone which looks similar to the Apple iPhone and comes with a camera, music features, and document viewing features. But apart from the looks, it is nothing as revolutionary as the Apple iPhone.

The LG Prada, is a bit costly when compared with the Apple iPhone. The iPhone comes with a price tag of USD 500, while LG Prada costs you USD 600. Verizon Wireless has not officially commented on this latest news, but the comments from Verizon COO sometime back indicates such a move cannot be ruled out.
