Toshiba Cell REGZA 55X1 HDTV unveiled

Toshiba has announced that it will launch its first LCD HDTV based on the Cell processor, the Toshiba Cell REGZA 55X1, on December 10, 2009. The Toshiba Cell REGZA 55X1 HDTV will cost a staggering 1 million Yen ($11,230).

The Toshiba Cell REGZA 55X1 HDTV has a sleek monitor and tuner, that houses the hard disk, in smoked aluminum finish.

The 55-inch full HD TV with 240 Hz display has a dynamic contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1, LED backlight, and a super brightness of 1250cmd2, the highest in any TV.

The company claims that the Toshiba Cell REGZA 55X1 HDTV has 143 times more processing power thanks to the Cell-platform on which it is built.

The TV has an impressive hard disk capacity of 3TB that allows users to view HD videos and record up to 26 hours of digital programming from up to eight channels simultaneously. It offers multi-image display of eight digital channels simultaneously allowing users to select programs of their choice.

Viewers can also use a time-shift machine button on the remote control that allows viewers to catch up on missed programs.

Another feature of the Toshiba Cell REGZA 55X1 TV is, what the company calls “roaming navigation,” that allows viewers to use identifiers or key words to search and display information on archived, current and programs in the pipeline.

There is support for standard DLNA and HD web browser based on Opera18 browser. Reports say that Toshiba will use the Cell processor in future models, such as a 4k x 2k model and a 3D TV.
