Although the company has said that it plans to launch the Android handset, no further details about the phone have been revealed. Reports say that the Samsung Android phone is likely to be launched in June 2009.

Blurry photos of the Samsung Android phone that have turned up on the Internet, show that the Samsung Android phone has a full touch screen with round edges and a series of button at the lower end of the phone.

These were the only details that could be gleaned made from the Samsung Android phone photo.

At the CTIA wireless trade show, Dr. Won-Pyo Hong, executive vice president of global product strategy in the company’s mobile communication division, said that Samsung’s first Android phone will be launched in June 2009, outside the US.

The two US phones are likely to go to Sprint and T-Mobile, the only two carriers that have signed on for Google’s Android working group, the Open Handset Alliance.

US consumers will have their pick of two other Android devices sometime in the second half of 2009, Hong said.

“Due to operator preferences, the two US Android phones will look totally different,” he said.

In Europe, you can launch one common device with several carriers,” he noted.

Hong also specified that the Samsung Android, unlike Google Experience cell phones which along with running on the Android platform is also Google centric, with lots of its own applications, with have many other improvisations and customizations on top of the Android platform.

Apart with the Samsung Android phone, the company is also excited about its Linux-based software platform, the LiMo foundation. Samsun has plans to launch attractive LiMo phones later in 2008. “The market has been waiting for good LiMo-based devices,” Hong said.

“Samsung will release some notable LiMo phones in the third quarter of the year,” Morgan Gillis, executive director of the LiMo Foundation, confirmed.

Apart from Samsung, LG has also hinted that it will launch Android phones in 2009.
