Technology Review, a technology magazine, read by over 2 million people around the world hit the Indian today. For the tech-savvy audiences, this magazine includes all you want to know about emerging technologies around the world.

The magazine was unveiled at EmTech 2009, the MIT conference of emerging technologies in New Delhi. The conference, the first outside MIT campus, has been launched in India jointly by MIT’s ‘Technology Review’ magazine and CyberMedia India Ltd, South Asia’s largest specialty publication house.

These are not exactly great times for the tech industry or the publishing world – the recession has hit everyone hard, computer sales are projected to fall in 2009, and advertising is drying up for newspapers and magazines. In this scenario, how Technology Review fares has to be seen.

The star-studded launch was marked by Pradeep Gupta, chairman, Cyber Media handing over copies of the pilot issue of Technology Review magazine to leading policy maker Prof M.G.K. Menon and Hewlett Packard India’s managing director, Neelam Dhawan.

Explaining the need of the magazine in India, Pradeep Gupta said, “While India has many polished technology magazines in specific verticals, it so far lacks a thought-leader publication cutting across all verticals on innovation economy and breakthrough technologies. Technology Review will fill this need.”

The conference was inaugurated with a speech by Pradeep Gupta followed by a speech by Jason Pontin, Editor in chief and Publisher, MIT Technology Review. After the orthodox Indian way of inaugurating a conference by enkindling the lamp in front of the Indian dieties it was announced that the Indian edition of Technology Review, described as a magazine of innovation, will make its way into the Indian market.

This two day conference will have experts talking about issues like rising energy and healthcare costs to technologies that aim to predict traffic movements and stock prices. The various scientific developments were and will be talked about in the event.

India produces the world’s second highest number of graduates. However the country also remains the one with 300 million people below literacy level, a fact discussed in the conference. The reputed members in the event will also talk about the measures and solutions that India need to target to overcome the problem of illiteracy in the country.

Technology Review is a magazine that is a 109 year old magazine. It is yet to be seen how well the Indian tech audience respond to this magazine.
