Tata Teleservices Limited has launched
India’s first mobile Web browser in
association with Samsung
Telecommunications India.
The services of the CDMA company,
which have been integrated with a
sleek handset named Samsung Explore
and priced at Rs 5,499, is fully
optimized for mobile internet.
The access speed will be between 40
and 80 kbps, enabling viewers to open
any Web page in 20-30 seconds.
Suneel Bandhu, circle operating
officer, Tata Teleservices Limited,
Gujarat, said the browser – equipped
with Qualcomm Single Chip – is
designed to provide mobile users
internet facility at speed 3-4 times
faster than GPRS, with access to all
websites “anytime on the move.”
A mobile browser, or micro browser, is
a Web browser designed for use on
mobile phone. Micro browsers, which
are optimized to display internet
content, are most effective for small
screens on portable devices. They work
with small application files that
enable a bandwidth efficiency and fast
delivery on wireless, handheld
devices.
According to Pankaj Sethi, president
of Tata Teleservices Limited, “this
innovation is an important step in
extending the power of the internet on
to mobile devices, making it
accessible to the large and growing
mass of mobile users. With our new
mobile Web browser, Tata Indicom
customers can get a rich and full
internet experience on handsets that
are very affordable.”
As an introductory offer, the internet
services of Samsung Explore has been
priced at Rs 10 for one day, Rs 30 for
a week, and Rs 99 for a month, with
unlimited internet access.
Samsung Explore also comes with a ‘Go
Active’ connection that offers
incoming facility for a year and
1,000-minute Tata-to-Tata calls at no
extra cost.
Additionally, Tata Indicom customers
also have the option to select their
own tariff plan from various tariff
options.
The Samsung Explore phone has a 65K
color TFT screen, digital camera, FM
radio, expandable memory card slot up
to 1GB, MP3 player, security features
like mobile tracker and emergency SOS
alert, and speaker phone.
The Tata Indicom mobile Web browser,
powered by Novarra Incorporated, can
be easily downloaded on Brew-enabled
handsets.
