This can be useful for people concerned about poor health, those who travel in unsafe areas etc. The phone key to set off the warning can be set by the user himself.

The Tata Indicom Aurum also has a feature wherein you can preset an emergency SOS message. In case of an emergency, pressing the  ‘ [ ‘  key for half a second will send out the emergency message to a preset contact number. Unlike in the emergency siren, this doesn’t alert a possible accoster, but informs your friend or relative that you are in trouble.

The Tata Indicom Aurum is outfitted with a mini-torch, which can be used in case of power failures and in dark streets. A few years back, Nokia introduced a similar phones with a torch, which proved to be a big hit in Indian towns and vilages plagues by power problems.

Tata Indicom Aurum is manufactured by Unicair, a Chinese mobile phone manufacturer.

Tata Indicom has one eye on the rural markets with the Aurum launch. The Aurum has text inputs in both English and Hindi. The Aurum comes comes with a camera which can shoot pictures and videos. It also has multimedia capabilities to play music and video files on the phone. The Aurum can also access Tata Zone, an exclusive lounge for Tata Indicom customers. The mobile phone has a flight mode too, so you can switch off the wireless connection on your Aurum and continue to use it for other functions while flying.

The Aurum mobile phone is priced at a reasonable Rs 4,000, though it may be mentioned that it doesnt come with internet functions. The Aurum, however, is not targeted at power users, who go for higher-end phones with GPRS, GPS and other gizmo’s.
