Mobile number portability (MNP) is now making it possible for mobile subscribers in Haryana to change their operator without losing their mobile numbers. This new service is anticipated to cause some subscriber churn in the telecom market.
Some mobile operators are already tempting subscribers who want to migrate from their existing operators under MNP schemes. Among these mobile service providers are Tata Docomo, BSNL and Idea Cellular.
Tata Docomo’s special offers to migrating subscribers will be available for a period of six months to all customers who switch to Tata Docomo by Dec 31.
Tata Docomo is offering a tariff of one paisa for six seconds for a period of six months within the Tata Docomo network from the time that a subscriber switches to Tata Docomo, irrespective of whether he chooses to take a pre-paid or a post-paid connection. The operator will also give 100 MB of free data per month to all 3G subscribers, as well as free itemized bills to all post-paid subscribers for a period of six months. Furthermore, Tata Docomo will offer pre-paid subscribers Rs. 100 worth of talk time with a recharge of Rs. 100; Rs. 220 worth of talk time with a recharge of Rs. 200; talk time worth Rs. 350 for Rs 300; or Rs. 500 worth of talk time for a Rs. 400 recharge.
Post-paid subscribers switching to Tata Docomo will get to choose from three service plans and will be charged one paisa per second for both local and long distance (STD) calls both within the Tata Docomo network and across networks. These service plans are Diet 125, FV 149 and Diet 199. Related: Tata Docomo 3G plans in India
Diet 125 is priced at Rs. 125 and will come with either 200 free local call minutes, 150 STD call minutes, 500 SMSs or 100 MB of data. It is unclear whether this free usage can be divided up among local calls, STD calls, SMSs and data usage.
FV 149 comes with Rs. 149 worth of free local call minutes, STD call minutes, SMSs or data usage.
Diet 199, on the other hand, comes with twice the free usage that Diet 125 offers.
Other than special voice offers, Tata Docomo is offering special 3G packages. The operator already offers 3G in Haryana and people switching to Tata Docomo 3G can get 500 local or STD minutes and 350 MB of data use for Rs. 350; 750 local and STD minutes with 650 MB of bundled data for Rs. 500; 1,250 local and STD minutes with 1 GB of free data usage for Rs. 750; 2,000 local and STD minutes with 1.5 GB of data for Rs 1,000; or 5,000 local or STD minutes and 3 GB of data usage for Rs 2,000.
BSNL, meanwhile, is offering unlimited GPRS usage free for a month, along with Rs. 100 worth of talk time and a full waiver of porting charges, which can be up to Rs 19.
Idea Cellular so far has launched a campaign to advertise its strengths, but hasn’t publicized any freebies for subscribers switching to its network.
