TAG Heuer to launch mobile phones

TAG Heuer, the world leader in sports watches, chronographs, and luxury watches is now all set to storm the mobile phone market. The luxury phones from TAG Heuer will debut during the latter half of 2008.

According to a report, the watch maker has joined hands with the ModeLabs Group to design, produce, and market mobile phones under the banner of TAG Heuer. The two companies are already in a contract to undertake research and development of luxury tailor-made mobile phones.

TAG Heuer had entered the eyewear segment with its Avant-Garde Eyewear in 2002. The Avant-Garde products have already become a world leader in high-end eyewear and has cemented TAG Heuer’s potential as a global brand capable of offering contemporary, technological, and timeless products in high-growth categories with strong potential such as luxury mobile phones, the report pointed out.

TAG Heuer’s entry into the mobile phones segment will be its second diversification. This, the company believes will aid in enriching the brand in terms of both image and added value.

Incidentally, the ModeLabs Group-TAG Heuer combine is not a first such association in the industry. Armani's phone is manufactured by Samsung,
ideally creating a perfect partnership of style and capability. Similarly, LG Electronics and Prada have also come together before.

The luxury watch maker, meanwhile, expects that its mobile phone range might be picked up by the same people who buy TAG Heuer glasses and watches.
