It won’t be wrong to call the Spice S-1200 the king of megapixels. Spice Mobiles has launched a 12 megapixel cameraphone in India at low price of Rs 14,500. Tough to beat, for sure.
Of course, remember that we are not talking about a smartphone here. This is clearly a featurephone which offers some in-demand features and some very high numbers. The Spice S-1200 has those 12 megapixels alright, but what matters really is the photo quality, not megapixels. Still, we appreciate the attempt. Hope to lay our hands on an S-1200 soon to give it a proper workout!
Anyway, here are the rest of the details.
What are you going to like? Well, the Spice S-1200 has a 3X optical zoom, something that is a rarity eve in high end smartphones. Added to that, there is a 9X digital zoom. Nothing to complain about there.
Spice says that the S-1200 has a professional CCD sensor for the camera, but we have no idea what they mean by professional. You can be sure that no cameraphone will easily match the results of a simple compact digital camera – but no one expects that from the Spice S-1200, or even a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10.
You also get Bluetooth, FM, FM radio recording, 3 hours talktime and 150 hours standby time from the 1000 mAh battery.
We all know that cameraphones are highly in demand in India – young people want no camera that does not take photos. And the S-1200 fulfills that need.
There are some other interesting features too – you see, we really want to love this phone!
There is the so-called Smile Shutter, which means that the moment your subject smiles, the camera snaps a pic on its own. There is built-in multiple face detection, another feature of serious cameraphones. The Spice S-1200 also has a xenon flash, 32 GB expandable memory, TV-out. Focusing modes include manual, auto and multi-focus.
The press release did not talk about video recording, but we found from Spice Mobiles’ website that the S-1200 also offers 24.5 fps video recording, and 30 fps playback.
Sure this is no smartphone – but at that price, the Spice S-1200 is seriously tempting!
