Table Radio is a Stereo System, MP3 Player, CD Player and More

ANDOVER, Mass., Sept. 25, 2003 /PRNewswire/ -- Cambridge SoundWorks(R) has just introduced its SoundWorks Radio(TM) CD. Compact enough to fit on a kitchen counter or bookshelf, the SoundWorks Radio CD is a stylish high-performance table radio that offers sound so rich and deep it compares to home stereo systems, but at a fraction of the cost. Cambridge SoundWorks is a wholly owned subsidiary of Creative Technology Ltd.

The secret of the SoundWorks Radio CD's remarkable sound, says Fred Pinkerton, a member of Cambridge SoundWorks' engineering team, is its built-in powered subwoofer. "This unique engineering design enables the SoundWorks Radio CD to offer incredible bass response from a small box - something you'd normally associate with larger component stereo system." (U.S. $399.99).

"Think of the SoundWorks Radio CD as a full featured stereo system in the form of a small, stylish table radio," says Pinkerton.

One of the SoundWorks Radio CD's best features is its front loading CD slot (based on the design of high-end car CD players), which plays standard CDs as well as MP3 files on CD-ROM. This basically turns the SoundWorks Radio CD into the equivalent of an eight-disc CD changer, allowing users to enjoy hours of uninterrupted music from a single CD-ROM.

Radio Data Service (RDS(TM)) capability is also featured, so users can see the name of the station and even the current song's title and artist scrolling across the display. They'll never have to ask, "what's the name of that song?"

The SoundWorks Radio CD has a multi-language, 32-character display (English, French, German, Spanish or Italian) that is big enough to see from clear across the room. A single JOG button menu handles "set and forget" functions, such as bass, treble, stereo modes, loudness, dual alarms and text modes.

The SoundWorks Radio CD also has a great FM stereo tuner that can store sixteen FM station presets, and an AM tuner with eight preset buttons. Front and rear auxiliary inputs for additional CD or MP3 players are provided, along with dual alarms that wake to tone or music, as well as an ultra-compact remote control.

The SoundWorks Radio CD retails for $399.99. It is available in black or ivory, and can be purchased directly at Cambridge SoundWorks' retail locations, on the Internet at or by calling 1-800-FOR-HIFI, and is also available through select retailers throughout the country.
