The Japanese electronics company Sony has announced a delay to its much anticipated motion sensitive games controller for its Playstation 3 games console. The motion sensitive games controller for Playstation 3 will be delayed by 3 months, the company has said.
Sony’s Playstation 3 is the major rival to Microsoft’s games console Xbox 360 and Nintendo’s Wii. The delay comes as a shock for die-hard PS3 fans who will get to grab the console only in autumn.
Microsoft will launch its revolutionary hands-free games controller for Xbox 360 during Christmas and Sony’s announcement of a delay in its motion sensitive games controller launch gives it only a narrow advantage for the company over Microsoft. Microsoft’s new hands free game controller has been codenamed as Project Natal.
But when the festive season starts, users will have the freedom to choose their game consoles from a choice of three different hi-fi motion sensitive game controllers.
The news of the delay of its Playstation games controller is a major setback for Sony, which last week had announced another delay for its Gran Turismo 5 game. Delays to the release of the highly anticipated game yet again puts Sony on the backfoot, the latest version of the game being released almost five years ago.
Sony has said that the delay to the launch of its motion sensitive games controller is not linked to any particular design fault or hardware fault. Rather the company wants to ensure there are enough games available for the user so that the new controller can be used.
