Sony S540 series Walkman announced

Sony plans to launch its S540 series Walkman video MP3 player, worldwide, in September 2009. The stunning Sony S40 series Walkman is just 10.2 mm thin with aesthetically placed built-in stereo speakers encased in aluminum speaker grilles.

The company claims that the Sony S540 series Walkman is the first of its kind to incorporate built-in stereo speakers.

The Sony S540 series Walkman comes with a 2.4-inch LCD display that allows users to view podcasts, download movies and video clips. Sony claims that the LCD screen’s quick response time allows video playback up to 30 frames per second.

The Walkman supports a range of music and video formats that include rights-managed WMA, WMV, MPEG1, and certain WMV files that can be played back on the Walkman when converted via Content Transfer, the company has said.

The Content Transfer software can be installed from the memory of the Walkman.

The Sony S540 series Walkman also features a voice recorder and FM radio with record function.

Sony has said that its ‘Digital Linear Phase Speaker System with Virtual Bass and Linear Phase Correction’ technologies add to sound quality.

The Sony S540 series Walkman also comes with a Dynamic Normalizer feature that keeps a  volume level balance between songs. The Walkman also features a 5-band equalizer to provide enhanced sound quality.

The battery life of the Sony S540 series Walkman is extra-long, the company claims. Users can use headphones and listen to music for 30 hours at a stretch. The speakers can go on for 10 hours nonstop and the video can be played for six hours without having to recharge the batteries.

The Sony S540 series Walkman will be available in four colors, pink, black, red and violet.

Accessories include a stand that provides “hands-free” table-top viewing.

Other accessories that customers can opt for comprise a CKS-NWU20 soft carry case, a just-fit CKM-NWZS540 silicone case, or a CKA-NWU50 armband.

Users can also choose to purchase the BCR-NWU7 charging cradle, and the SRS-NWGU50 dock speaker for more powerful sound.

Customers of the Sony S540 series Walkman will receive a special promotional voucher that will allow then to download five free non-DRM music videos from 7digital’s online catalogue of over 10,000 videos.

The price and availability of the Sony S540 series walkman is yet to be announced.
