Sony Ericsson Idou, a concept-mobile phone is on cards. Idou is not the final name for the latest Sony Ericsson smartphone — it is just a concept name. However, what will be common to the concept phone and the real one is a 12 mega-pixel camera.

The high resolution camera will be the USP of Sony Ericsson’s Idou, to be retailed under a different name later this year. Sony Ericsson announced the concept mobile Idou just ahead of the GSM Mobile World Congress which starts in Barcelona today. Apart from the Idou, Sony Ericsson has also showcased several new models which will be part of its Walkman Series.

Sony is pegging itself as the communication-entertainment mobile phone brand with the launch of the Idou.
The intuitive touch screen (size: 3.2 inches) featured in the Sony Ericsson Idou comes with its 12.1 megapixel camera and a xenon flash. Sony claims that the Idou mobile has a true 16:9 design for its touchscreen, which translates to lifelike viewing of movies and video clips. Sony expects the Idou to be the best entertainment and camera phone in the world.
The Sony Ericsson Idou will have a Symbian operating system. Sony said that with this, users of the Idou will be able download, install and run thousands of programs designed for the Symbian platform on the Idou. Sony is launching its new mobile phones at Barcelona under the theme “Entertainment Unlimited.”
So far, the only mobile phone maker which had serious intentions about making a 12 MP camera phone was Samsung. With Sony Ericsson’s rather late entry into the high resolution mobile camera game, Samsung (which is yet to launch its 12 MP camera phone) has got a tough competitor. The Idou also comes with built-in photo editing functionality. Idou users will also be able to download content from Sony Ericsson’s PlayNow online store.
Sony Ericsson claims that the Idou is built to deliver audio and video with precise quality across hi-fi audio systems, laptops and computers. The touch screen on the Idou can display 16 million colors. The Idou also has 3G and Wi-fi connectivity options.
Sony has released some photos of the Idou smartphone, but details and technical specifications of the 12 megapixel camera phone are not out yet. The actual name (Idou is only a placeholder) of the phone will be released closer to the actual launch.
