SMS Gupshup gets $11 million investment

SMS GupShup, a leading mobile community platform, has received investment to the tune of $11 million from Helion Ventures and Charles River Ventures.

The funds will be used to fund business growth, product development and increased sales and marketing, the company has said. SMS GupShup provides a platform to enable contextual advertising to targeted communities to increase brand awareness and engagement.

Launched in April 2007, SMS GupShup has grown to be a popuclar social community platform and boasts of over 12 million users, in over 500 thousand communities ranging from finance, entertainment, business, news, education, spiritual and health. According to company brass, SMS GupShup will soon cross the boundary and will be available in other nations too. The new investment is likely to help the company in this regard. .

According to Helion Ventures Managing Director Ashish Gupta, “Helion believes that the SMS Gupshup platform for mobile communities and advertising has immense potential” Adding to this, Devdutt Yellurkar, Partner, Charles River Ventures, said that SMSGupShup has assembled a talented team of smart technologists and proven entrepreneurs and “we look forward to working with them in building a large, successful business”.

With two world-class venture capital firms as its investors who would be helping the company deliver customer value and build on a significant market opportunity, SMS GupShup is expected to innovate faster and deliver great products to consumers, advertisers and enterprises, the company top brass added.
