Indians have one more job search site – simplyhired.co.in I think the last one to be launched was Shine

Well, the more the merrier, right?

Simply Hired is quite famous internationally. Alexa rankings for Simplyhired show a traffic rank of 2556 as of 30 October 2008. While quite respectable, this is nowhere near the astronomically high ranking of say, a Monster.com (Alexa rank: 325)

In India, Simplyhired.co.in has its work cut out. Advertise like mad, and see the traffic pouring in.

We have seen how sites did it successfully in India. Remember desimartini.com? They had a site that looked like basic open source code plugged in and activated, had a logo that was as basic as it could get, and then had a pretty long TV commercial. Result? Instant traffic. Which they used to sell themselves to someone with even more mighty coffers – I think it was HT Digital Media.

Bigadda.com did the same.

In.com, from the Network 18 guys, got hold of a 2 character domain name, and then used all their web properties to promote it. All Network 18 sites have an in.com frame at the top now. For the first one week, they had interstitials which would introduce the users of their sites such as ibnlive.com or CricketNext to the new site.

This is a game for the big guys, baby.

If you sense a note of bitterness, you sense right! DWS has tried pretty hard to do a good job, but we just do not have the resources to make it big. We do not have the business sense to make it too, I may add here.

The most recent site I was pissed off about was zigwheels.com The site is part of the Indiatimes network, they started it, started linking to it from Indiatimes.com and voila! zigwheels has the same traffic or more as dancewithshadows.com now after existing for 2 months. Super, isn’t it?

Sorry for getting all the way here after talking about Simplyhired. A good outpouring is good for the soul, though not for business, I guess. So bye for now, folks, as I get back to some seriously tedious work that is bound to fail in the long term!!
