Samsung Electronics has announced the launch of its first phone to run its new Bada open mobile operating system, the Samsung Wave S8500, at the Mobile World Congress (WMC), in Barcelona, Spain.“For the first time, developers have the freedom to create applications across multiple platforms, for consumption on a huge range of devices. In the Wave, our developer partners can see the ocean of opportunity that is offered by the bada mobile platform and our device technology,” aid JK Shin, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics.
The Samsung Wave S8500 has a 3.3-inch super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and mDNIe (mobile Digital Natural Image engine) technology, used in Samsung’s LCD and LED TVs.

It offers a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, autofocus, face and blink detection, Lomo Shot, Vintage Shot, Beauty Shot, Smile Shot, Panorama Shot, geo-tagging, and built-in Image Editor, the company has said.
The phone comes with Samsung’s latest TouchWiz 3.0 user interface and a new Samsung Hub feature that integrates social networking site apps, IM, and email and allows users to manage contacts and connect with them in one place.
Users can customize their home screen to set one-touch access to social networking sites of their choice or turn the home screen into a media player.

The Samsung Wave S8500 phone also supports Samsung HD video recording and DivX, XviD playback.
Audio specs include 3.5-mm jack, FM Radio, Music Player with SoundAlive, Music Recognition, Music Recommendation, and DISK UI.
The phone works on 2.5G (GSM/ GPRS/ EDGE) : 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz and 3G (WCDMA/ HSPA) : 900/2100 MHz networks.

Connectivity specifications of the Samsung Wave S8500 phone include Bluetooth v 3.0, USV v2.0, WiFi at 802.11 b/g/n, 2GB or 8GB memory expandable up to 32GB via microSD card.
Other specifications include A-GPS, accelerometer, proximity sensor, GeoMagnetic sensor, PictBridge, voice and motion UI, and RSS Reader.
The Samsung Wave S8500 phone will be available globally from April 2010. There is no information available about the price of the phone in India or in other countries.
