Samsung Electronics has unveiled its latest smartphone namely, Samsung Wave 578 at Mobile World Congress 2011. We don’t know the India price yet but the current Samsung Wave phones are priced between Rs 13,000 and Rs 20,000 in India so Samsung Wave 578 price should fall in this range.
The Wave 578 uses Samsung’s own smartphone platform BADA 1.1. The phone will be available first in France in May, 2011 and gradually be rolled out to European countries, CIS, South East Asia, India, Middle East, and China.
Samsung Wave 578 is equipped with 3.2” WQVGA TFT LCD screen. It has a 3.2-mega pixel rear camera and a VGA front camera. It supports HSDPA connectivity with speed up to 3.6 Mbps. Moreover, the Wave 578 includes 100 MB internal memory which is expandable to 16 GB via microSD slot.
Further, the phone has USB 2.0 and offer support for Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 as connectivity options. It packs a 1200 mAh battery that offers 750 min talktime on 2G and 410 mins talktime on 3G. Standby time is 700 hrs on 2G and 500 hrs on 3G.
In addition, users get access to Samsung Apps that allows them to easily download an abundance of applications. Also, it includes Social Hub and is layered with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI. Other features of the phone include games, navigation, social networking, e-book, health and lifestyle applications.
An interesting feature of Samsung Wave 578 is that it offers Near Field Communication (NFC) connectivity. NFC is a technology that allows users to enjoy many innovative services such as mobile payment at the shops and paying transportation fare, reading tags, getting mobile coupons, etc. The Samsung Wave 578 is also equipped with multi-touch functionality so that users can easily zoom in and out and pinch the screen to browse and view the gallery.
The Wave 578 has a metallic body with rounded edges that support an ergonomic grip. The company claims that the QuickType by t9 Trace is two to three times faster than standard typing and supports more than 75 languages. The QuickType by t9 offers convenient typing experience while reducing input error.
The Samsung Wave 578 offers enhanced social experiences through a rich communication suite (RCS) that supports a wide variety of social communication on the phone. Users can share content while chatting on the phone or send messages to several friends at the same time. Further, the phone also supports SNS (social networking service) integration that seamlessly connects contacts across various social outlets, such as Facebook and Twitter. Also, it comes equipped with Push IM that enables users to access messages anywhere and anytime.
Samsung has also announced the second generation of the Bada platform, which offers support for NFC, HTML 5 and WAC, plus multitasking and voice recognition.
