Samsung has announced the launch of a new range of social networking phones, the Samsung Shark S5350, S5550 and S3550.The three Samsung Shark phones will go on sale later in January 2010.
Positioned as devices for “multimedia-hungry” netizens hooked onto social networking sites, the Samsung Shark 5350, S5550 and S3550 offer integrated social networking services on the home screen.
“The Shark Series is designed to meet the needs of active, style-conscious users who demand constant connection with their peers, ” said Younghee Lee, Vice President of Mobile Marketing, Samsung Electronics.
He further added that the Samsung Shark series will keep users up-to-date with the latest news and also allows them to express their own style and distinctive personal taste.
The phone will offer one-click access to popular services, such as MySpace, Facebook, and Bebo, via SNS shortcuts on the homescreen. The Samsung communities application allows for easier uploading of photos and videos to Flickr, Picasa, Photobucket and YouTube.
The Samsung Shark S5350 comes in a candybar formfactor and features a QVGA display screen, HSDPA, 3.2 megapixel camera with video recording, updated GUI designs, 100MB of internal memory and MicroSD card support.
The phone that is just 11.9mm thin is equipped with a multi-instant messenger that integrates all of the user’s accounts for GTalk, AIM, and Palringo Chat into one app.
The Samsung Shark S5550, described as a a ‘futuristic fluid slider’ by the company, is made of a mix of Kevlar and metallic surfaces.
The phone features a QVGA AMOLED display, HSDPA, and a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with video recording.
Other specs include 110MB of internal memory, MicroSD card support up to 8GB, Bluetooth, multi-instant messenger, and USB connectivity. Both these two mobile handsets have HSDPA 3.6 (900/2100) and quadband GSM/EDGE.
The Samsung Shark S3550, another slider, comes with a QVGA screen and a patterned mettalic back cover. It has an innovative user interface, GSM/EDGE connectivity, 2-megapixel camera, 40MB of internal memory and MicroSD card slot. All the three phones have Bluetooth 2.1 and USB 2.0 support.
The Samsung Shark S5350, S5550 and S3550 phones come with an added security functionality like the Mobile Tracker, which helps to trace a lost or stolen mobile by alerting the user whenever the SIM card is changed.
Users can also program an SOS Message to send a distress alert to a pre-selected emergency contact, enabling quick requests for assistance.
Samsung has not provided any information about the prices of the three phones or whether the phones will be launched in India.
