Samsung 72-series Plasma TVs launched

21 Aug, 2005: Samsung has announced that it would provide high-end A/V retailers with its celebrated 72-series of plasma HDTVs. Samsung is a global leader in Plasma TV technology. The fifth generation line of Plasma televisions which is led by the CES Innovations Award winning 50” HP-R5072, was designed to accommodate the specialty A/V retail market with good performance and stylish design. The new 72-series from Samsung features the next step in features and offers models in sizes to complement any living room or home theater including the 42” HP-R4272, the 50” HP-R5072, and the 63”HP-R6372.

The new models in the series offer all the features that the previous Samsung Plasma TVs had offered. With Samsung's Premium “bezel-less” design, the model is less than 4” deep. Samsung's fifth generation Plasma panels deliver unbelievable picture quality with 549 billion displayable colors and Samsung’s DNIe image enhancer. The 72-series Plasma TVs have a built-in HD Tuner, purely digital HDMI input and digital cable ready CableCARD compatible technology.
The flagship model of the Samsung 72-seris is the CES Innovations Award-winning HP-R5072, which sets the benchmark for contrast and brightness. Its 10,000:1 contrast ratio and 1,300cd/m2 brightness together with Samsung’s 13-bit processing method delivers lifelike colours and helps in video signal processing of analog sources to ensure a more natural and vivid picture.
The 72-series Samsung Plasma TV comes equipped with Samsung’s proprietary Digital NaturalImage engine (DNIe) technology. DNIe analyzes video signal elements in order to produce sharper detail, clearer image separation and more natural edge transition.
All three models in 72-series are currently available through specialty A/V retailers. The HP-R4272 is priced at MSRP $4,199; the HP-R5072 has a $5,699 MSRP; and HP-R6372 is valued at MSRP $12,999.
