Samsung has launched another low-cost phone in the Indian market, the Samsung Metro 5200.This phone is not part of Samsung’s hugely popular Corby line-up in India.
The Samsung Metro 5200 will be available in India at a price of Rs 7439, samsunghub has reported.
The phone is a basic slider with a 2.1-inch color screen with 240 x 320 pixels. There is a 3.2-meagpixel camera with face detection, LED flash, and video recording.
The Samsung Metro 5200 comes in two dual-tone colors, Black-Red and Black-Blue.
The phone works on GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 mHz.
The quad-band GSM phone offers 50 MB internal memory with support up to 8 GB via microSD card. Customers get 1GB memory bundled with the phone.
Other feature include FM Radio, music player, Bluetooth, and USB 2.0. The Samsung Metro 5200 features office docs support, fake call prank application, and comes with a 800mAh battery that offers a talk time of up to 5 hours and standby time up to 5 hours.
It is difficult to understand why Samsung would launch such a barebones phone in India at Rs 7439, when some Corby phone with touchscreens and decent specs are available at prices below or around Rs 10,000.
In December 2009, Samsung launched the Samsung Corby Speed, Mpower Muzik 219, Samsung Duos 259 CDMA phone in India.
The Samsung Corby Speed that comes at a price of Rs 10,400 has a 2.4-inch touchscreen phone and better features, such as access to SNS sites, than the Samsung Metro 5200.
The Samsung Mpower Muzik 219 and Samsung Duos 259 are priced at Rs 3,599 and Rs 8,350, respectively. The Samsung Duos 250 is a dual-sim phone.
Then there is the Samsung CorbyPlus B3410 that is available at a price of Rs 10,050. This phone comes with 2.6-inch touchscreen display, Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface, and a full QWERTY keyboard.
The Samsung Corby S3653 comes with a 2.8-inch QVGA TFT LCD touchscreen display, Samsung’s Touchwiz UI and haptic feedback system, One Finger Zoom, and Gesture Control, all at a price of Rs 9000.
Samsung is also going to launch the Samsung Corby Pop in India, a downgraded version of the Samsung Corby S3653. This touchscreen phone will comes with a full touchscreen, WiFi, Bluetooth, 5-megapixel camera, with video recording. The Samsung Corby Pop is expected to be priced at around Rs 7000, cheaper than the Samsung Metro 5200 that will cost Rs 7,439, without half the Pop’s features.
