Mobile Store’s Ray mobile phones are coming. Mobile Store, which is owned by the Essar group to sell and service mobile phones, is launching its own branded mobile phones, which will be named Ray. Ray mobile phones will be made in China, exclusively for Mobile Store customers.
Till recently, cheap Chinese made mobile phones have been a big hit in India. However, the government recently clamped down many of these mobile phones, which came without a unique number called IMEI. Mobile Store’s Ray mobile phones hopes to capture this space by introducing mobile phones made in China, which will comply with Indian telecom rules.
Mobile Store plans to unveil a range of Ray mobiles suitable for every customer category. The cheapest model will be the Ray M20, which will come with a price tag of Rs 2,199. Reports in the media said that the Ray M20 will have an MP3 music player, and FM radio, besides expandable memory. Mobile Store will also unveil double-SIM touch-screen phones under the model numbers Ray M31 and Ray T60. A camera phone with 3 megapixel resolution, Ray T65, is also expected to be launched.
The organised handset retailing market is still nascent in India. With its own private label mobile phone Ray, Mobile Store plans to capture 50% of the organised mobile phone retailing segment. Reliance Communications and Spice are two telecom companies which have their private labels so far. Mobile Store may spend Rs 50 crore for the launch of the new brand Ray.
About the Ray launch, Rajiv Agarwal, CEO and Director of MobileStore said: “We feel that this is an apt time to enter into the handsets market. We plan to launch affordable feature rich handsets for today’s youth. We have created a strong touch point for the consumers across the country and hope to capitalize on that. We will continue our initiative of giving the customer much more than he pays for and hope to receive the same patronage for our new product.” The MobileStore, promoted by the Essar Group, is a one stop mobile solution shop which offers Telecom Products like Mobiles, Mobile
Accessories, Mobile Connections & Recharges, Mobile Bill Payments, Value Added Services, Mobile Repairs, Mobile Exchange, Music & Gaming Devices and DTH.
Mobile Store expects that India will see sales of over 100 million mobile handsets this year. The Ray mobiles are targeted to take a chunk of this market.
