Pentax Digital SLR camera *IST DL launched
Simple, affordable, small body features large LCD monitor. Beginner photographers, this could be what you were looking for.
6 June, 2005: Digital SLR camera market has a new entrant: Pentax Imaging Company has just launched a third digital SLR camera - the PENTAX *ist DL digital SLR. The Pentax *ist DL digital SLR camera features a 2.5 inch LCD monitor and the lightest Pentax digital SLR body at barely 16.6 ounces. Pentax claims that the new digital SLR camera is taking up its established imaging tradition of compact digital bodies with simple operation and excellent performance.
"The new Pentax digital SLR camera *ist DL is the smallest in the digital SLR marketplace, with the largest LCD in its class offered at a very affordable price,” says Ned Bunnell, director of marketing, PENTAX Imaging Company.
Digital SLRs, where Pentax is one of the major players, along with Canon, Nkon, Ricoh and Sony, has positioned the new camera model as an addition to the popular PENTAX digital SLR family. Pentax claims that the new camera is best for beginning digital photographers, including families and digital users who are ready to step-up from a point-and-shoot, compact digital camera.
“Any photographer looking for simplicity of camera operation and a large LCD monitor for his digital SLR camera will appreciate the *ist DL,” said Bunnell. “Responding to consumer demand, our goal at PENTAX with the *ist DL is to further reduce the cost for an entry-level user.”
Boasting 6.1 effective megapixels and compatibility with most interchangeable PENTAX lenses, the *ist DL will start shipping next month with the smc PENTAX DA 18-55mm digital lens for under $800 in the United States.
The Pentax *IST Digital SLR Camera shows images clearly even with the original image magnified 12 times using digital zoom. The high-precision 2.5-inch color LCD monitor has about 210,000 pixels. It also enables image confirmation after shooting and menu selection during shooting and editing operations. The menu screen also provides an optimum color scheme between menu descriptions and background, therby assuring easy reading under all types of lighting conditions.
The Pentax *ist DL digital SLR automatically picks the most appropriate Picture mode from Standard, Portrait, Landscape, Macro or Action for best combination of all factors including aperture, shutter speed, white balance, saturation, contrast, and intensity of edges. The in-built auto flash pops up automatically in poor lighting. This will be a boon for first-time photographers who have a problem figuring out the nuances of photography.
The multi-function 4-way controller is responsive to electronic Av/Tv dials. The big mode dial, all switches and dials are positioned on the *ist DL body for easy control.
The digital SLR comes with a compact, high-rigidity stainless-steel chassis and a bright viewfinder.
The Pentax *ist DL digital SLR camera features a user-friendly, multi-data guide screen, offering a detailed description of shooting modes, displays drive, flash and white balance settings using text and sample photos, and presents a comprehensive list of all camera settings on the large 2.5-inch monitor.
