Olympus is likely to announce a replacement for its old E-3 DSLR camera at the Photokina visual art technology exhibition in Germany, according to rumors.
The old Olympus E-3 DSLR is now three years old. The new camera will be called Olympus E-5 and captures 12 megapixel images. It is believed that Olympus’ TruePic 5 processing engine will help the camera offer better detail in photos.
Most of the information we have here for you are based on rumors, so we won’t make any claims on their accuracy for now.
The Olympus E-5 is expected to enable 720p HD video recording at 30 frames per second. It will have a 3-inch, 920,000 color flip LCD screen for video playback and menu options. The camera would likely offer 11-point auto focus. The E-5 also has Olympus Air Filters that allow special effects and basic edits to be made to the video on the camera screen, without the need for a computer.
The E-5 will have a microphone jack and a 4/3 lens mount. The Olympus E-5 is said to be a competitor to Canon’s 7D and Nikon D300.
Extra features of the Olympus E-5 include a weather sealed body and a ‘surprise feature’ that hasn’t yet been revealed.
At this point, we have no information on when the E-5 would be available in United States, or its possible price.

Olympus also has a new E-P2 kit with a 17mm lens and external flash, along with two new lenses. One of them allows nearly silent video recording and costs about US $900. At a length of 11.6cm, the M.Zuiko ED 75-300mm f/4.8-6.7 is said to be the world’s smallest 600mm zoom lens.
The second lens is M.Zuiko ED 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6, which costs around US $300.
Nikon too will probably exhibit a US $1200 DSLR camera at the Photokina. The new Nikon D7000 will probably be able to record at 1080p with continuous autofocus. It might have high ISO 25,600 sensitivity, a 16 to 18 megapixel sensor and will shoot as fast as 8 frames per second. Rumor has it that the Nikon D7000 will have a full frame FX sensor. This will mean that images will be clean and free of noise.
