Notion Ink Adam web tablet to be unveiled in January 2010

Hyderabad-based Notion Ink will unveil a touch screen web tablet, the Notion Ink Adam, in January 2010 at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show. The Notion Ink Adam will be the first web tablet to be developed by an Indian company. Latest update: Notion Ink Adam launch and prices, Genesis SDK announced.

The Notion Ink Adam web tablet, that is rumored to be priced at a mere Rs 15,000 ($320), is expected to come to market sometime in June 2010. June is a bit far away – by then several other similar touchscreen web tablets are expected to be in the market, many to be unveiled at the upcoming CES 2010 show. But as far as pure looks go, the photo of the Adam is a killer – potentially better than even some of the photos of the Apple iSlate we have seen so far. But these two would be at two ends of the spectrum – at a price of $ 320, the Adam would be relatively cheap, but no one expects the Apple table to cost less than $ 500.

The tablet is powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra T20 processor and will initially run the Google Android operating system and user interface. The Notion Ink Adam has dimensions of 6.3 x 9.8 x 0.6 inches, with a SVGA color resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, and weighs 1.7 pounds.

One of the most touted features of the Notion Ink Adam is the Pixel Qi transreflective display screen that offers fully saturated color and high video rate update.

The touchscreen display screen comes with an additional matte anti-glare, oleophobic and scratch-resistant coating.

Users can use finger gestures or trackpad for navigation.

Other specifications of the Notion Ink Adam include a 3 megapixel camera, HD video support, HDMI-out, 3.5-mm headphone jack, 16GB or 32GB flash drive with expandable storage via MicroSD card.

The camera can be used to capture both image and video and also enables video chat.

Connectivity features of the Notion Ink Adam include A-GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. The phone works on triband UMTS/HSDPA at 850/1900/2100 MHz.

The rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery of the Notion Ink Adam is to offer up to 48hrs of standby time. The Hindu has quoted Rohan Shravan, founder and Director, Creatives, Notion Ink, as saying that the smartpad can run eight hours of HD video and 16 hours of Wi-Fi use.

The device is now in the testing stage with Indian and US telecom operators.

The Notion Ink Adam web tablet will be launched first in the US and then in India and Europe.
