The first official concept photos of upcoming Nokia WP7 phones are out. There is a single picture which has three phones, all look like the same model but with different back covers.
But these are phones we are talking about, and the designs look good but not outlandish – so there is a good possibility that the first Nokia WP7 phones could actually look like these renderings.
As you know, Nokia and Microsoft announced their strategic alliance yesterday, where the company announced its future plans to keep MeeGo as an experimental platform, adopt Windows Phone 7 OS as its main OS for smartphones, and said precious little about the future of Symbian.
Looking at the Nokia WP7 concept photos, we see nothing to complain about. You can see the WP7 OS UI with its smart tiles, a camera and flash and the audio jack and micro USB (?) ports. On the front, you have the three standard WP7 touch buttons.
Seeing these photos actually make me feel a bit more confident about the platform now. There is at least one hardcore Apple fan – MG Seigler of TechCrunch – who thought that the WP7 OS was different and interesting. Nokia has a reputation for top-class hardware. Together, there is a possibility that they could offer a credible alternative to iOS and Android.
Steve Ballmer has already said that Microsoft and Nokia engineeres have been working together on the integration of Nokia hardware and WP7 OS for a while.
So what do you think about the Nokia WP7 concept photos? DO let us know in the comments. We expect more concepts and renderings to leak out in the coming months, but what we really want to see is one amazing, real phone. Show us that, and those of us who grew up with Nokia’s can heave a sigh of relief.
