The Nokia Surge is Nokia’s third smartphone in the AT&T wireless lineup, Nokia 6650 and the E71x being the earlier ones.
Nokia Surge flaunts a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and features power button doubles as the End key, unlike the Nokia smartphones released in the past.
The smartphones’ QVGA screen gives a sharp and bright display and a resolution of 320 x 240 pixel makes it even more attractive.
The Nokia Surge also sports a 2-MP camera but comes without LED flash. Nokia’s built-in FM radio and some fantastic built-in games add to its features. Being an AT&T device, the Nokia Surge supports the TeleNav-powered AT&T Navigator.
The smartphone also sports CV for streamed videos, and Nokia’s standard-issue Mini Map browser.
Being a Symbian Series 60 Third Edition smartphone, the Nokia Surge encapsulates Quickoffice for working in Word and Excel documents. The Nokia Surge comes with Mail for Exchange 2.9 and can be used as a 3G modem for laptops and netbooks.
The Nokia Surge also gives users various downloadable applications and a complete HTML browser with Flash support. One can watch videos on youtube and get access to sites like Facebook on-the-go with the pre-installed JuiceCaster application.
“Launching at 79.99 USD with a complete email solution, downloadable applications and full HTML browser with Flash support, Nokia Surge hits the sweet spot between a quick messaging phone and a smartphone because of its low-price and strong feature set,” said Michael Woodward, vice president, Mobile Phone Portfolio, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets.
David Petts, vice president and general manager, AT&T Account, Nokia, said that social networking and messaging is a cakewalk with Nokia Surge, “”Designed in the U.S., this socially charged smartphone comes in a sleek slide form factor that supports social networking and messaging – and all on an open platform,” he said.
“Together with AT&T, we’re excited to address the increasing demand for smartphones with a device that’s as attractive to the customer as it is to his or her wallet,” he said.
The Nokia Surge is priced at 79.99 USD and will be available at select AT&T stores.
