Nokia launched the much-awaited Nokia N97 in the Indian market on July 6, 2009.Priced at Rs 36, 119, the Nokia N97 is aimed at those addicted to the internet and need to be online 24/7.
“From the desktop to the laptop and now to your pocket, the Nokia N97 is the most powerful, multi-sensory mobile device in existence. It is an important step towards our vision of delivering a highly personalized Internet experience,” said Vineet Taneja, director, Marketing, Nokia India.
“Fuelled by a multitude of media and applications through the Ovi Store, the Nokia N97 transforms the Internet into an experience that’s completely tailored to the tastes and interests of its user,” he added.
Nokia N97 is the first phone from Nokia that has extensive access to the newly launched Ovi stores. The store allows users to access a large collection of applications, games, videos, tools, services and more. Nokia Music Store support is also present.
Nokia assures a fast internet connection that will allow users to upload pictures and videos and share them using Ovi Share.
Measuring 117.2 x 55.3 x 15.9 mm, the Nokia N97 features a large 3.5” TFT resistive touchscreen display and a slider QWERTY keyboard.
It provides an ‘always open’ window to your favorite website on the internet. Blogging, e-mailing, chatting and sending texts is easy as the user has the options of using either the QWERTY keyboard or the touch display.
The phone is based on Symbian OS 9.4 with Nokia S60 Fifth Edition UI.
The phone has an inbuilt 38-GB memory and has a slot for MicroSD card that can further increase the storage capacity by 16 GB.
The Nokia N97 has a 5 mega pixel camera with a Carl Zeiss lens and dual LED flash that is capable of recording DVD quality video.
The device has HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity too.
The Nokia N97 also has an extensive Maps feature with A-GPS and city guides. Other features include Walk Pedestrian navigation, free voice-guided Drive Navigation for three months, and a built-in compass.
Networking features comprise email, feeds, chats, IM, and widgets from social networking sites.
The Nokia N97 has a standard Lithium Ion battery that provides standby up to 432 hours (2G) / 408 hours (3G), talk time of up to 9 hours 30 min (2G) / Up to 6 hours (3G), and music play up to 40 hours.
The phone comes to India via wireless carrier Vodafone. Vodafone offers the phone free data plan for three months. A provision for users allows them to purchase the Nokia N97 via an EMI paying system (to pay in installments with 0% interest) for three months.
The Nokia N97 was released in the US on June 9, 2009, at a price of $1799.
