Nokia entry-level phones to be launched in Indonesia

Nokia has revealed its plans to launch five new low-end mobile phones, the Nokia 1280, Nokia 1616, Nokia 1800, Nokia 2220 Slide and Nokia 2690, in emerging markets.The company will launch the five new phones and Nokia Life Tools in Indonesia.

The Nokia 1280, Nokia 1616 and Nokia 1800 phones, that are priced at EUR 20, EUR 24 and EUR 26 respectively (before taxes and subsidies), come with features such as, FM radio, prepaid tracker, flashlight, anti-scratch cover and dust-resistant keymat.

The phone will have a long battery life promising up to 22 days of standby time and and up to 8 hours and 30 minutes of talk time.

The mid-range Nokia 2220 Slide and the Nokia 2690 will be available at a price of 45 and 54 euros, respectively.

These two phones offer FM radio, VGA camera, GPRS and MMS support, Bluetooth, and phone books for up to 1000 contacts. The phone also support Ovi Mail that allows users to set up e-mail accounts on their phone. With this feature, users can send and receive e-mails without using a PC.

The Nokia 2220 Slide and the Nokia 2690, too, offer a long battery life with standby time of 20 days and 13 days, respectively.

The Nokia 1280, Nokia 1616, Nokia 1800, Nokia 2220 Slide and Nokia 2690 will start shipping in end-2009 to mid-2010.

The company has said that Nokia Life Tools will be available in Indonesia from early December 2009.

The Nokia Life Tools will enable users to get information, such as news and prices, related to three categories, Agriculture, Education and Entertainment.

The agricultural tool will allow users to subscribe to three of the most commonly grown commodities in their areas, such as livestock, crops, horticulture and fisheries.

With the Education tool, users will be able to avail of basic English courses in their local language, while the Entertainment tool will provide information such as scores of games and current news.
