Nokia has announced that the latest addition to its Eseries line-up, the Nokia E72 smartphone, is now available in stores.

UPDATE: The Nokia E72 has been launched in India at a price of Rs 22,989.

The Nokia E72 is primarily a business and personal messaging phone aimed at users who need to be connected at all times.

Nokia has also cited the results of a now research that says that that more people use e-mail rather than phone calls or text messaging when sending and responding to critical information.

Nokia vice president Ukko Lappalainen said, “The research shows that people are spending an average of five full days per year – equivalent to a full work week – responding to emails. Half of us (46 percent) choose email over voice or text to send and receive important information.”

The Nokia E72 is priced at 350 EUR ($525). Will the Nokia E72 be launched in India soon? The Nokia E71 was launched in July 2008 at a price of Rs. 22,949, shortly after its international launch.

The Nokia E72 has a monoblock form that measures 114 x 58.3 x 10.1 mm and weighs 128 g. The phone has a 2.36-inch TFT display screen with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels  and a full QWERTY keypad.

The phone has four separate one-touch keys for Menu, Calender, Address book, and e-mail, apart from Volume and Mute keys. Profiles include General, Silent, Meeting, Outdoor, Pager, and Offline.

The phone will be available in three colors, Zodium black , Metal grey, and Topaz brown.

Camera specs

A 5-megapixel camera comes with autofocus, flash, CMOS sensor, 5x digital zoom, one-touch autofocus key, options for capture and scene modes, and video recording.

The video recording feature allows users to record moving objects at a rate of 15 frames per second, at a maximum resolution of 640×480 pixels (VGA) and at a rate of 15 frames per second  with maximum resolution of 320 x 240 (QVGA).

The video player is compatible with mp4, AVC/H.264, .wmv, RV, Flash Video, H.263/3GPP video playback formats and MP4 and 3GP video recording formats.

Music features

The Nokia E72 comes with a music player and media player. The phone offers stereo widening, Equaliser presets, dedicated volume keys, audio streaming, album graphics display, and FM radio. It supports AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, MP3, AMR-NB, WMA music playback formats.

Messaging features

The Nokia E72 offers Push e-mail support with multiple e-mail accounts and allows users to set up IMs directly from the homescreen. Using this feature, users can easily access Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk, Ovi Chat and so on.

Other messaging features include SMS with support for up to 10 concatenated SMS, storage of up to 999 messages, speed-dialling for sending SMSes, multiple SMS deletion, recently used numbers list, text-to-speech message reader, MMS version 1.2 with maximum message size of 300KB, automatic resizing of MMS messages, and EMS picture messaging.

Users get 4GB built-in memory expandable to 16 GB via MicroSD card, and 250 MB free user disk space.

Performance and Connectivity features

At the core of the Nokia E72 is the ARM11 600 MHz processor. The phone runs the Symbian Operating System 9.3 with Series 60 v3.2 user interface.

The phone runs on GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900  nework, and HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100 and HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 3G network.

Navigation features include built-in A-GPS with compass, and Nokia Maps 3.0.

Connectivity features include Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and Wi-Fi with specifications of IEEE 802.11g.

Battery Specs

The Nokia E72 uses a BP-4L 1500 mAh Li-Ion standard battery that offers:

  • Maximum Talk time of 12 h 30 min with GSM, 5 h 54 min (WCDMA), 13 h 42 min (VoIP)
  • Maximum Standby time is 492 hours (GSM), 576 h (WCDMA), 110 hours (WLAN)
  • Maximum video playback time: 13 h 6 min
  • Maximum video recording time: 6 h 24 minMaximum video call time: 4 h
  • Maximum Music playback time (maximum): 37.5 h

    Nokia has completely lost its mind.. I have been waiting since last three mnths for this phone.. by making us wait more nokia is actually going to loose its clientelle as alot of us are switching to other brands.. nokia is definitely loosing its loyal customers by making them wait!

    I also agree with u Deepika.. Bt after reading review i think that it ws my ryt decision to wait for E72..
    A phone with all the features.. 5Mp camera is luking gud n opti navy key looks stunning..
