Bluetooth SIG has approved the Nokia 6790 Mako and Motorola VE440 Cadbury, that will be released sometime in 2009.

The pre-production version of  the Nokia 6790 Mako handset that was recently spotted showed that the Nokia 6790 Mako will sport a side sliding QWERTY keyboard and the same S60 3.2-based platform used in the Nokia 6650 and E71x.

The Nolia 6790 Mako comes with a dual-band HSDPA, a 2.4-inch QVGA display, AGPS and a 2 megapixel camera.

The phone offers 128MB of internal storage with a micro SD expansion. However the Nokia 6790 Mako only has a 2.5 mm headphone jack. Some reports say that the design of the Nokia 6790 Mako will different from anything Nokia has produced in the past.

The Nokia 6790 Mako also features a 2.4-inch display with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution. Other features include support for 16 million colors along with HSDPA, EDGE, A-GPS and GPS key, multitasking abilities, and 3G functionality.

The Nokia 6790 Mako will be launched in the US by AT&T later in 2009.

The CDMA handset, Motorola VE440 Cadbury, which does not fall under the smartphone category, will be released by Verizon or Sprint in the US, later in 2009. It is said to be a basic low-end device without any spectacular features.

Meanwhile, in end-June 2009, Nokia entered into a technology partnership with Intel. The two companies have said that they will work on new mobile computing devices but have not indicated when the new devices will be launched.
