As you can see from this photo of the Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition, this phone looks pretty conservative but neat. It should be good to go for the market it is targeting, at a very value for money price.
The Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition comes at a price of 110 euros. The phone gives voice guidance and turn-by-turn directions, something sure to upset traditional GPS device retailers and map vendors in India.
The Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition is preloaded with Nokia Maps for free, so you don’t have to buy maps from other mapmakers, like MapMyIndia or Satnav in India. The maps come with a lifetime licence, which means you can update it as and when updates are available.
The Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition has a 2 megapixel camera, 3.5 mm audio jack and a dedicate navigation button. The Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition can shoot pictures and videos. The Nokia navigation Maps are stored in the 2GB SD card.
Nokia said that the Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition will be sold in countries with the country-specific maps preloaded. Those who wish to travel abroad can also use the Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition for driving directions, by using GPRS and live Google Maps, though GPRS data charges will cost extra.
Nokia said on its blog that the Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition has a 2.2-inch screen, and memory to hold 1,000 phonebook entries. The GPS phone also comes with Ovi Mail and Instant Messaging. It also has an MP3 player and an FM radio. Nokia said that the Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition will go for up to 18 days between charges in standby mode and will give up to four hours and 20 minutes talk time.
The Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition looks very conventional, but is quite utilitarian. It fills a crucial demand gap, for those who want navigation on the go, do not want to purchase expensive GPS maps, and are not happy with the slow-loading Google Maps. We welcome the Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition, and hope that buyers in India will get to lay their hands on this GPS phone at the earliest.
