3 September, 2005: Nikon Coolpix P1 and Nikon Coolpix P2 Wi-Fi digital cameras are here, which can transmit data from your digital camera to a computer or another Wi-Fi enabled device wirelessly. The revolutionary compact cameras, unveiled on September 1, redefine digital photography, Nikon said in a press release.

Wires and cables are done away with in the Wi-Fi Nikon. Both Coolpix P1 and Coolpix P2 have built-in Wi-Fi LAN support. This is over and above the USB support that the Nikon Coolpix series offers. Wi-Fi support means you can directly transfer photos from the Coolpix memory card or internal memory (32MB for Nikon Coolpix P1 and 16 MB for Nikon Coolpix P2) to the computer. The pictures shot are sent to the Wi-Fi enabled computer as soon as they are shot. The pictures can be viewed with Nikon's PictureProect software. Nikon's wireless W-Fi photography extends to printing, where you can print the photograiphs wirelessly to a PictBridge compatible printer. All the Nikon Wi-Fi functions can be easily set up with an installation wizard.

Nikon Coolpix P1 Wi-Fi camera sports an image quality of 8.0 mega pixels, while Coolpix P2 has 5.1 mega pixels. The big-resolution pictures allow for creative cropping and wonderful enlargements. Both Nikon Wi-Fi cameras are equipped with 36-126 mm Zoom Nikkor lens (35 mm equivalent) and have a 3.5X zoom lens.

Both Nikon Wi-Fi cameras come with 16 Scene Modes. These are preset settings which can be used to capture pictures to one's liking.

A certain level of in-camera editing is also possible with Nikon Coolpix P1 and Coolpix P2. D-Lighting can improve images taken with excessive back light or less flash — the camera automatically creates a copy of the selected shot, but with enhanced detail and light applied exactly where necessary.

The Portrait Mode can detect a human face in the frame, bringing it into sharp focus, when the subject is facing the camera. Both Nikon cameras also have In-Camera Red-Eye Fix function also. Both Coolpix P1 and Coolpix P2 also have Blur Warning facility, which alerts you when a shot may have been compromised by a camera shake.

Beyond photography, the Nikon Wi-Fi Coolpix P1 and Nikon Coolpix P2 can also shoot movies at a rate of 30 frames per second. There are six pre-set movie modes, besides a time-lapse setting.

Both Coolpix P1 and Coolpix P2 are compact, with a depth of approx. 39mm, 1.5 inches and weighing only 170g, 6 oz. The light-weight Nikon cameras can be easiliy carried around anywhere. Both Nikons have newly-designed grips which makes camera handling easier.

The new Wi-Fi cameras have large, bright and clear 2.5-inch LCD screens. The neat screens makes it easier to play back and share images right after shooting. Coolpix P1 and Coolpix P2 are quick-footed too. Both start up quickly, and it is a breeze for search for the pictures with the date search function.

The PictureProject software provided with Nikon oolpix P1 and Coolpix P2 makes things better. This makes the import of pictures from camera easier, with or without wires. PictureProject makes it easy to edit and organize photos, make presentations with special effects, share images etc.
