Mouse. Named after a cartoon chaacter, the Mighty Mouse is a break with Apple's single-button past loading multi-button efficiency in a single-button format. The touch-sensitive snazzy shell-like mouse is priced at $49 in US. The Mighty Mouse is designed to work best with Mac OS X Tiger, though it works perfectly well with other Mac and compatible Windows operating systems too.

Claimed as the the next generation mouse, the new Apple Mighty Mouse sports several new features, which make using a Mac® powerful and easier. Mighty Mouse provides Mac users up to four independently programmable buttons, without stepping on simplicity for users who prefer just a single-button mouse.

The Apple Mighty Mouse also introduces a unique Scroll Ball which lets you scroll in any direction — vertically, horizontally and even diagonally. The scroll button is more unobtrusive than the the scroll button in Windows mice, and more elegant and functional. Now, you can scroll with natural, fluid movements, making Apple's Mighty Mouse perfect for programs from viewing web pages and photographs, to video editing and music creation.

Apple claims that its Mighty Mouse is the maiden multi-button mouse which retains a single-button mouse's simplicity, and can be used as a single-or multi-button mouse depending on your preference.

Apple has loaded the Mighty Mouse with a single seamless enclosure with programmable touch sensors. The sensors act as primary or secondary buttons. With a simple click on the upper right or left side of the mouse, users can instantly access features such as contextual menus found in Mac OS® X and other applications.

The two other Mighty Mouse buttons are activated by pressing its Scroll Ball and squeezing its sides, and can be easily programmed to give users one-click access to Mac OS X version 10.4.2 “Tiger” features such as Spotlight , Dashboard and Exposé, or to launch any application such as Safari or iChat.

The easy-to-use design of the Apple Mighty Mouse is comfortable on the left hand or the right hand and comes fitted with an optical movement tracking engine for responsive and precise cursor movement. Fitted with up to four programmable invisible buttons, Mighty Mouse makes it easy to access key features of Tiger with the side buttons and Scroll Ball providing quick, one-click access to Spotlight, Dashboard and Exposé.

Apple's Mighty Mouse use calls for a Mac OS X, Windows 2000 or Windows XP and easily connects to Mac and Windows systems; Mac OS X version 10.4.2 “Tiger” is required to customize buttons for one-click access to Spotlight, Dashboard and Exposé or to launch applications. Mighty Mouse is compatible with either USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 ports.

Said David Moody, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Mac Product Marketing: “With Mighty Mouse, we’ve simply built a better mouse. With its innovative Scroll Ball and unique integration of multiple buttons, Mighty Mouse adds functionality while retaining the elegant, easy-to-use Apple design.”
