MyTouch 3G Android phone from T-Mobile and HTC was launched today. The MyTouch 3G is the second Android phone from T-Mobile. The first was
G1, also made by HTC. A touchscreen and support for Microsoft Exchange mark out the MyTouch 3G Android from its predecessor G1. T-Mobile is
pegging the MyTouch 3G as a fully customisable cellphone.

The MyTouch 3G android phone comes with integrated Google search, Gmail, Google Maps, Youtube and Picasa. According to a tech reviwer,
the touchscreen on the MyTouch 3G is better than even the iPhone’s. The operating system on the MyTouch 3G Google’s open source operating
system for mobile phones and portable devices, the Android 1.5. The hardware on MyTouch 3G is mostly the same as that of the G1, but the
new mobile phone definitely looks slimmer and sleeker. T-Mobile is also planning to roll out several other Android phones, along with HTC, following the G1 and the MyTouch 3G.
T-Mobile has set a pre-order price of $199 for those who wish to buy the MyTouch 3G Android mobile. This is $20 more than what the G1 cost. However, this is only for existing T-Mobile users, who get a two-year contract extension with the MyTouch 3G. The company said that retail
sales of the MyTouch 3G will start from July 5, while pre-ordered handsets will start shipping starting July 28.
Though T-Mobile was the first to launch an Android-powered phone with G1 last year, a lot has changed since then. Mobile phone manufacturers
like Motorola and Samsung are also planning to roll out models sporting the Android operating system.
T-Mobile is heavily on the phone’s ability to customise it for individual needs. The company says the “desktop” of the MyTouch 3G is completely customisable where you can put widgets from favourites applications and links to favourite websites. However, the fact remains that many existing phones already have highly customisable home screens and programmable keys. “We’ve heard loud and clear from our customers that a deeper level of personalization matters to them,” said Denny Marie Post, chief marketing officer, T-Mobile USA. “That is why we placed so much emphasis on breaking the mold with myTouch 3G: to provide customers with boundless ways to make their phone a true expression, and extension, of themselves.”
The MyTouch 3G is loaded with a “sherpa app”, which the company says keeps tracks of your favourite points of interest with the help of its built-in GPS.
The MyTouch 3G will come in three colors – Black, White and Merlot. The phone features WiFi, a good move. Though its a 3G phone, it can be
used in non-3G networks too, connecting to GSM signals. T-Mobile says that the MyTouch 3G supports both haptic and capacitative feedback. The MyTouch 3G is a gamble for T-Mobile, which is hammered by rivals undercutting its prices and launching more expensive and fancy products. Its first Android phone G1 was a hit, selling a million units, but the challenge for T-Mobile will now be to match the expectations and scale them too.
