MySpace is where all the news is
24 April, 2007
News is where the action is. Like
many other company, MySpace too seems
to have realized it, of late.
A report has revealed that the News
Corp-owned MySpace is making its foray
into the news business. And that’s is
not all. The foray will see MySpace
adding a new feature with
user-recommendation capabilities on
this front. Elaborating on this, the
report added that the MySpace feature
will allow users to determine what
makes popular news items and what
people typically want to view. The new
feature is currently under beta
testing and uses technology developed
by Newroo.
For this, MySpace is bringing in the
best from Digg and Netscape, it added.
Accordingly, the user-recommendation
capability is already available
through Digg and Netscape. This will
make MySpace capable of scanning
thousands of web journals, news sites,
and group results on the basis of
different categories such as sports
and politics, apart from user
submissions, it added. Among the other
unique features will be the feature
which will allow users vote on items.
This, in turn, will help the company
determine should be on the home and
section pages, the report said quoting
sources.
Another review of the MySpace news
foray plan said that the company will
allow publishers exclude their items
from the site. Besides, it would also
help drive traffic to other news
sites, driving MySpace readers to
these sites.
