Motorola Quantico rugged phone announced

Motorola announced the launch of its new rugged tri-band CDMA phone, the Motorola Quantico, on November 11, 2009.The clamshell phone has a tough exterior  tough-as-nails exterior made from chrome, glass, mesh and rubber.

The Motorola Quantico has a 1.6-inch external display screen with 120 x 160 pixels resolution and a 2.2-inch internal display screen with a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels.

The Quantico features a basic 1.3-mega pixel camera with fixed focus.

The phone meets military specification 810F and ensures protection against temperature, dust, extreme pressure, shock, vibration and rain.

Motorola says that the Quantico has a “submersible design” that allows the device to be dunked in up to one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. The phone’s rubber overmold and gripping textures ensure a strong grip even after submersion.

The phone runs on CDMA 1700/2100 and 800/1900 CDMA EVDO.

Other specifications include Stereo Bluetooth Class 2, 2.5-mm headset jack, USB 2.0 FS, GPS with turn-by-turn navigation, Music player, MMS, email, and MicroSD card support.

The Motorola Quantico supports AAC, AAC+, AAC+ Enhanced, AMR NB, MIDI, MP3, WAV, WMA v9 audio formats and H.263, H.264, MPEG4, WMV v9  video formats.

Motorola has not revealed the price of the Quantico but has confirmed that the phone will be launched before the end of 2009.

The phone comes with a 1140 mAh battery that provides approximately 5.8 hours of talk time and 18.6 days of standby time.

Motorola has been in the news for a while new after the launch of its Android phone, the Motorola Droid, on October 30, 2009.

The Motorola Droid has generated a lot of excitement in the Android market, and is mostly considered to be a worthy opponent of the Apple iPhone.
