Sanjay Jha, co-chief executive officer of Motorola and chief executive officer of Motorola Mobile Devices, said, “We are delighted to announce MOTOROI, the first Android-based phone, with SK Telecom in Korea, a key partner in one of Motorola’s key markets in the world.”

The Motorola MOTOROI XT720 has a 3.7-inch high-definition capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 480 X 854 pixels. The phone comes with Motorola’s touch user interface that allows customers to customize the home screen of the phone using various widgets and shortcut icons.

Users can pick from different text-input methods, such as a 3X4 keypad, full QWERTY keyboard, half QWERTY keyboard, hand writing, and writing pad.

The Motorola MOTOROI XT720 runs on Android v 2.0. The phone offers high-speed web browsing with both WiFi and an Android Web Kit browser that supports eight open browser windows. Usrs can also access Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, and Google Talk.

The phone comes with an eight-megapixel camera with a 720p HD camcorder, and features like face detection, shake prevention, auto focus, Xenon flash, geo-tagging, and easy panorama, the company has said.

HDMI-out allows users to view their HD photos and videos on their HDTV screens.

Work-related features include management of multiple accounts, Microsoft and PDF document viewer, business card reader which recognizes contact information on business cards and stores this information, and a document reader that stores documents to the user’s phone book.

It won’t be wrong to call the Motoroi XT720 the younger brother of the Motorola Droid phone. The Droid loses its keyboard, and gains a hump – the reason for which is quite mysterious – in this phone.

Entertainment features include MP3 player, 3.5-mm jack, a home charging docking station, and support for Terrerstrial DMB TV tuning.

The phone works on 900 / 1800 / 1900 GSM and UMTS 2100 3G networks.

The Motorola MOTOROI XT720 comes with 8GB internal memory with support up to 32GB via microSD card.

The phone will go on sale in South Korea in February 2010. The company has not revealed the exact date of launch or the price at which the Motorola MOTOROI will be launched.
