Motorola has announced an ultra basic flip phone for the masses who do not care about apps, operating systems or 12 megapixel cameras – the i410 which will be available towards the end of 2009 on Boost Mobile.

Like the legendary flip phone from Motorola, the Motorola Razr, this one too features two screens – one on the clamshell cover and the normal screen.

There is pretty much nothing you can do with this phone other than text people and make phone calls. Oh, and you also get walkie-talkie facility if you have two of these phones. Not useful for most of us, but imagine you are an ageing couple on a farm… or in a large house. It makes sense then.

The 0.97 inch extrenal display of the Motorola i410 shows you battery, signal strength, time and the caller id. The 128 x 160 pixel internal TFT screen is not black and white, thankfully.

The i410 is super lightweight, weighing in at just 128 gm. A speakerphone, micro USB slot, and the ability to play MP3 and WAV format files are also available. Talk time is 3.5 hours, while standby time is approximately 7 days.

No information on the price of the i410 phone is currently available either from Motorola or Boost Mobile.

We can see this phone doing quite well in our local market India though, at a super cheap price. Cheap phones like this from Nokia, Sony and a bunch of local manufacturers have been doing very well in India’s rural markets.
