Hot on the heels of the HTC Tattoo Android phone, Motorola has announced the launch of its Motorola DEXT, also known as the Motorola CLIQ via T-Mobile USA.

The Motorola DEXT will first be available in the United Kingdom and France, via Orange, Telefonica in Spain, and America Movil in Latin America, in October 2009.
The phone has a 3.1-inch HVGA touch-screen display, a slide-out landscape QWERTY keyboard, and a 3.5-mm jack.
The Motorola DEXT uses MOTOBLUR, a customised user interface, like the HTC Sense.
The MOTOBLUR user interface allows users to customise their home screen using midgets that stream updates to the home screen.

Also, MOTOBLUR’s messages widget streams updates to contacts, posts, messages, photos from emails, Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace to the home screen, eliminating the need to open multiple applications.
The Motorola DEXT comes with a a 5-megapixel auto focus camera with video capture and playback at 24 frames per second, and a pre-installed 2GB microSD memory card with support for up to 32 GB of removable memory.
Pre-loaded applications include Amazon MP3 store application, Shazamid, iMeem Mobile, Picasa, Photobucket, news and weather, Gizmodo, Android market, browser and so on.
The dimensions of the Motorola DEXT are 58 x 114 x 15.6 mm (2.28 x 4.49 x 0.61 inches). The phone weighs 163 gms with the battery.
The phone is powered by a Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 MHz processor, and comes with a RAM of 228MB and ROM of 512MB.
The Motorola DEXT runs on a WCDMA 900/1700/2100, GSM 850/900/1800/1900, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps (Category 7/8), and EDGE Class 12, GPRS Class 12.
The phone runs on the open-source Android mobile operating system that was first developed by Google and later by the Open Handset Alliance.
The Motorola DEXT comes with GPS, Google Maps with Street View, E-Compass, Bluetooth, and Wi Fi.
The phone has a 1420 mAh lithium polymer battery with a talk time of up to 360 mins and standby time up to 325 hrs.
The company has not revealed the price of the phone. It is not clear if the phone will be launched in India anytime soon and at what price. It is likely that the Motorola DEXT will be cheaper than the recently launched HTC Hero, priced at Rs 31,990.
