Motorola Devour, the first Motorola mobile phone with Android 2.1 Flan mobile operating system is believed to be getting ready.

The Motorola Devour A555 will a sort of younger brother to big boy Motorola Droid. The Droid is the most technologically-advanced mobile phone from Motorola yet, featuring Android 2.0 Eclair.

The price of Motorola Devour A555  is still a matter of conjecture. Since the top-end Motorola Droid is available from Verizon at a price of $200 with a two-year contract, the Devour is expected to cost less than that. The Devour was known as the Motorola Calgary till now. The name Devour seems to be final.

As far as specifications of the Motorola Devour A555 are expected to come with touchscreen, a physical slider QWERTY keyboard, a 3 megapixel camera which can shoot still photos and videos, and MotoBlur interface. Motorola is already present in other Motorola phones like the Cliq.

Verizon wireless, a CDMA operator in the US, is expected to debut the Motorola Devour to customers there. A GSM phone version of the Devour is likely later.

Technology blog Boygeniusreport said that the Motorola Devour may come with three touch sensitive keys, Wi-Fi, digital magnetometer, GPS, 3.5mm headset jack, 3MP camera, and MicroSD card support.

The Motorola Devour will be the second Android phone to be rolled out by Verizon on its CDMA network. Verizon has taken the smartphone battle straight to AT&T’s heart, by taking on its iconic iPhone in design, hardware specifications and usability with smart new products like the Motorola Droid and the BlackBerry series. The company claims it has the best 3G coverage in the United States. Verizon’s recent ad campaign on 3G coverage in US was challenged by AT&T, but the suit was thrown out by the court. From first looks, the Motorola Devour looks a rectangular box with sharp features, much like the Sony Ericsson mobile phones. In contrast, mobile phones like the iPhone, the Droid, and the new versions of BlackBerrys have curved edges.

Verizon is expected to start selling the Motorola Devour A555 starting New Year. This will be the first mobile phone featuring Android 2.1 Flan. In October, Google released a voice navigation application for Android 2.0, which works with advanced Android devices. The same feature will, naturally, be available on the Motorola Devour as well. Recently, Google also launched the same navigation application for Android 1.6 as well, with slightly fewer features. Google is also readying the Google Nexus One phone, its first Google-branded hardware product.
