Motorola Brute i680 rugged phone launched by Sprint

Motorola has joined hands with Sprint to launch a new push-to-talk mobile phone, the Motorola Brute i680, for Nextel. The flip phone meets the military specifications 810F for communication in extreme conditions and can tolerate shock, vibration, radiation, low pressure, salt fog dust, extreme temperatures, humidity and blowing rain.

The Motorola Brute i680 comes with Sprint Nextel’s exclusive public safety application such as Priority Connect providing priority service in times of network congestion and allows public safety personnel to communicate if they are out of network range.

The phone has a a 2.2-inch internal display with a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels and a 1.3-inch external one with a resolution of 120 x 160 pixels.

Other specifications include a 2-megapixel camera with flash, 180 MB of internal memory, large battery for extended talk time, music features, Stereo Bluetooth, and GPS.

The Motorola Brute i680 combines the ultra-rugged durability with the best push-to-talk services of Nextel Direct Connect.

“Motorola Brute combined with the exclusive Public Safety applications available on Nextel phones from Sprint allows public safety personnel to communicate, even if they are out of network range, an irreplaceable communication tool in times of emergency,” said Fared Adib, vice president – Product Development, Sprint.

It also offers the upgraded ability to switch from an active push-to-talk call to an interconnect voice call at the touch of a button.

This is reported to be an ideal communications device for individuals working in various harsh environments such as construction and manufacturing.

Sprint’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) provides wireless telecommunications, equipment, infrastructure and operations support to federal, state/local public safety, law enforcement, military and private sector entities in times of emergency.

The Motorola Brute i680 is available via all Sprint sales channels, including its website, Sprint retail stores, business direct sales, and telesales, at a price of $119.99 (excluding taxes), with a two-year contract.
