Motorola has partnered with Carbonfund.org, and made investments in renewable sources of energy and reforestation, to balance the offset the carbon dioxide needed to manufacture, distribute and operate the the Moto W233 Renew, the company has said.

The phone is also certified carbon-free from Carbonfund.org after an extensive product life-cycle assessment.

“Today, natural resources, energy and time are more precious than ever before. From the product’s design, to the packaging to our partnership with Carbonfund.org, we wanted to ensure that this device makes the right impact with consumers and the environment.” Jeremy Dale, corporate vice president, global marketing, Motorola Mobile Devices said.

The candy bar phone sports a 65k screen, 1.6-inch CSTN display, WAP support, with dual band GSM 850/1900. The Motorola W233 also has an USB connector, a dedicated music key, and a 2.5mm jack for audio connectivity. The phones weigh just 83 grams.

The Moto W233 Renew comes with 9 hours of talktime and 18 days of standby.

While designing the package, by using renewable sources, Motorola was able to reduce the size of the box by 22%. All the material inside the box is printed on 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper.

Customers can recycle an older phone free using a postage-paid recycling envelope that comes with the Moto W233 Renew’s box.
