21 Aug, 2005: Podcasting on mobile phones is going to be a reality soon, thanks to Melodeo, which makes peer-peer software. the company announced on Friday that it is making software to make downloading podcasts on mobile phones possible. This will make it possible for music buffs to download and listen to songs on their cellphones.

Melodeo said that making podcasts possible on mobile phones is a significant step in establishing the cellphone as a single unit for finding, getting and using digital media. Podcasting has grown by leaps and bounds in the last year, but access to it has been limited from the PC or Apple Macintosh. With the Melodeo software, Podcasts come to the mobile phone. With its software called MobilCast, Melodeo hopes to expand the reach of Podcasts to millions of new users.

Said Don Davidge, Sr. Vice President of Sales at Melodeo: “The mobile phone is the perfect tool for finding and listening to Podcasts. With Mobilcast Melodeo applies the same software and user experience to Podcasts that we have applied to other types of
digital media. The result is a fast, easy and familiar way of getting this popular content onto the phone for use anywhere, anytime.”

Podcasts have been growing in popularity, with many media houses and websites and radio stations adopting podcasts as a medium for message. Apple recently said that the next version of its iTunes software will include support for creating and distributing podcasts, substantially expanding the reach of podcasts.
