Microsoft Live Mesh test version unveiledSync data across devices with Microsoft Live Mesh.24 April 2008
Microsoft has launched a test version of Live Mesh, a technology that enables to synchronize data across PCs and devices, such as mobile phones and personal data storage systems, with the Internet. Using Microsoft Live Mesh, users will be able to access their pictures, documents and other data stored in different devices, from the Internet. Microsot Live Mesh will use the Internet as a data hub and synchronize files across computers, phones and other devices so a digital picture frame at home could show a picture minutes after it was taken by a cell phone. Microsoft is planning to restrict the technology to 10,000 US testers and computers running its Windows operating system. Later, Microsoft Live Mesh would be extended to mobile phones, computers from Apple Inc and other devices connected to the Internet. Ray Ozzie, who is considered as the brain behind this project, is working over time add more features to Microsoft Live Mesh. Ray Ozzie, who is also Microsoft's Chief Software Architect, has talked about Microsoft Live Mesh on March 5, 2008, during the company’s MIX 08 conference. She had then talke about plans to bring out a “mesh” though which all devices could be connected. Amit Mital, general manager of Microsoft Live Mesh, will unveil the first technology preview of the Microsoft Live Mesh in San Fransisco during the Web 2.0 Conference. This is considered as new strategy of Microsoft to capitalize on the reach of the Internet without compromising focus in software business. In recent times, Microsoft's rivals Google Inc and Salesforce.com have encroached on its turf with competitive offerings delivered over the Internet.
